Walking, or the art of traveling on foot, is the natural means of transportation for humans. However, with today’s society full of vehicles, walking is slowly becoming a lost art. And this should not be, health experts say, as walking has numerous benefits to us.

Here are some that we have compiled just for you.

Health Benefits

Walking is a cardiovascular workout that can help reduce the risk of heart disease; aids in the alleviation of depression and back pains; increases muscular strength; improves coronary condition; reduces risks of infection and hypertension; aids in maintaining a healthy weight; and curbs the decrease in bone density.

Likewise, it also helps in maintaining flexibility and coordination hence, reducing the risk of falls. Like almost all forms of exercise, it adds more health and zest to your life.

Social and economic benefits

Aside from the obvious health benefits, walking can also have a very large social and economic impact in today’s society..

Walking is free. In comparison to the cost of operating a car, which is approximately 5,170 dollars a year, walking will not cost you anything.

In addition to this, walking will also give you more time to interact with others. Walking has been shown to improve self-esteem, alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety, and improve mood.

Walking, particularly in pleasant surroundings and in the company of other people, offers many opportunities for relaxation and social contact.

Environmental Benefits

Moreover, walking is the only form of transportation that will not contribute to air pollution.

Motor vehicle emissions represent 31% of total carbon dioxide, 81% of carbon monoxide, and 49% of the nitrogen oxides released in the United States alone, and thus create 60 percent of air pollution.

Although individual cars are much cleaner today than they were in past years, if total traffic continues to grow, overall air quality will deteriorate. Moreover, cars and trucks burn millions of barrels of oil, a non-renewable energy source, every day.

Appetite suppressants have been around for many years now, so what are they? How do they work? Will they help me lose weight? Home-Weight Loss investigates...

If you have been researching weight loss supplements then you have no doubt come across the term ‘Appetite Suppressant’. This may have got you asking yourself the question “what is an appetite suppressant?”.

The answer is actually fairly straight forward. Picture this example…..

Your alarm goes off in the morning and you tell youself you deserve an extra 5 minutes in bed. That 5 minutes then turns in to 10 minutes, then 15 and before you know it you are running late. To save time you grab a slice of toast and eat it in the car on the way to work.

By 10am you are feeling hungry again, just grabbing a slice of toast did you no favours and you are now left wondering how you will make it to lunchtime without snacking on junk food.

This is an example of how NOT to suppress your appetite. If you were instead to ensure you eat a healthy breakfast high in fibre then you would have felt the benefit of appetite suppression.

Cereal adverts often claim things such as ‘keep hunger locked up till lunch’ this is because they are high in fibre and therefore act as an appetite suppressant.

An appetite suppressant therefore is something that is able to keep you feeling full for longer and therefore reducing your need to snack. Although appetite suppression can be acheived through careful planning of your diet, it is also available in supplement form.

Appetite suppressants work by either sending signals to your brain to tell you no more food is needed or by expanding in your stomach to leave less room for food. Both can be effective at reducing your hunger and both have their place in your diet.

There are two common types of appetite suppressant supplements.

Hoodia Gordonii Appetite Suppressants

The first is our preferred option – Hoodia Gordonii. Hoodia is a cactus plant native to South Africa and has been used for centuries by the San Tribe. Hoodia is said to work by sending signals to your brain to tell it that you do not need anymore food.

The San Tribe are known to munch on hoodia throughout their long journeys hunting for food. Sometimes they can be out walking all day so the need to keep hunger at bay so they can concentrate on the job in hand is very important.

The beauty of this type of appetite suppressant is that only a relatively small amount is needed for a very powerful suppression of your appetite.

With the right hoodia supplement you can ensure you feel full for much longer – it also helps you to prevent over-eating thus reducing your calorie intake. It is also an addition to your diet that can not be achieved just by changing the things you eat.

Hoodia has been clinically trialled and is our number 1 choice for appetite suppressants.

Fibre Appetite Suppressants

The other common option for appetite suppression supplements is a fibre complex.

These tend to combine different types of fibre (which can be found in fruit, wheat, grain, nuts, etc) to produce a pill which helps to give you that ‘full up’ feeling.

Fibre complexes are said to expand once inside your stomach, therefore leaving less room for food which then tells your brain you do not need to eat. The disadvantage of fibre appetite suppressants is that they can sometimes cause side effects (stomach cramps being the most common).

They also do not offer anything that a simple change in your diet can not achieve and for this reason we only recommend appetite suppressants as an alternative to hoodia based products.

Fat binders are taking the world by storm, but what are they? How do they work? Are they the magical pill which will make us all slim? Should we all be taking them? Home-Weight Loss exposure the facts behind the latest craze

With all the different types of diet pills that are available it is important to understanding EXACTLY what each one does.

You may look at all the various pills available and wonder what actually is the difference between all of them. In fact I am sure that a majority of people just think that they are one and the same, but they aren’t. Some will reduce your appetite, some will increase your metabolism and others will reduce the amount of fat you absorb.

Therefore it is important to distinguish what each type is so that you can approach your weight loss aims with an appropriate strategy.

So today I want to have a look at one of the more popular, and successful, types of diet pill… the fat binder!

The history of fat binders

The theory of “binding fat” to help weight loss has been thrown around for over a decade now, but it wasn’t until fairly recently that products started coming out that successfully did so.

Early pills were shown to have very limited results (if any) and were also proven to be incredibly expensive. Frankly at the time they did not reach mainstream acceptance because they were either ineffective, or you would have to spend a fortune to lose a minimal amount of weight.

However in recent years we have seen the development of affordable and medically endorsed fat binder diet pills, such as Alli and Proactol, which have shown great success for people who are serious about weight loss.

How do fat binders it work?

Fat binders work as they will contain an ingredient that reacts to the fat in your stomach before it is digested by the body. This can be from ingredients that are either unnatural made in laboratories, or naturally derived from plant extracts (as found in products such as Proactol and Zotrim).

A fat binder is taken after a meal has been eaten, and once it is quickly digested in the stomach, the fat binder fibres will spread within the stomach, coming into contact with fat that has not been digested yet and creating a thick liquid like gel.

This gel is thick and indigestible, and therefore will pass straight through the body with the fat inside it not being absorbed by the body.

Thanks to this, about a third of your fat intake will be binded, and thus not absorbed into your body.

So are fat binders the miracle pill we’ve been waiting for?

No. It is incredibly important to understand this. Fat binders are incredibly useful and with a right weight loss strategy will help you massively.

I have spoken to “dieters” who will eat a huge cream cake, take a fat binder, and then wonder why they are still gaining weight. Yes you’ve taken fat binder and stop a third of the fat going into your body, but two thirds of that cake is still going straight to your hips!

Simply put, if you exercise regularly and eat a sensible diet, then taking a fat binder diet pill will give you that edge and speed your weight loss till you are thin and beautiful.

But be warned… a fat binder does not give you the right to binge eat!

When should I a fat binder it?

As I mentioned, fat binder diet pills are incredibly helpful, with products such as Alli, Zotrim and Proactol having truly revolutionised the weight loss market and have helped thousands of people lose weight steadily and who go on to live exciting, rich lives.

But you have to ask yourself a few questions first, and you need to answer them honestly!

1) Do I have a regular exercise programme which includes aerobic exercise such as running, swimming or similar?

2) Do I eat sensible sized portions?

3) Do I eat a sensible diet that includes vegetables, protein and carbohydrates?

4) Do I resist unnecessary snacking?

5) Have I managed to reduce (or better yet eliminate) takeaways, fatty foods, fried food and other high fat food stuff from my diet?

If the answer to all the above is yes… than a fat binder is for you. It can help take you one step closer to your ideal weight. (Meanwhile if you are looking to reduce your appetite to help reduce the amount you eat, you may be more interested in an appetite suppressant).

Although there are no short cuts, thanks to fat binders it is now even easier for you to earn your sexier and slimmer frame.

The Many Health Risks That Come With Obesity

Whilst it is important to be happy with yourself no matter how much you weigh, if you are clinically obese unfortunately there are certain health risks you are prone to. This means that unless something is done, you will not stay healthy and happy for long!

The Various Risks Involved

It is important to note that these risks are for obese people, not just for people who are a little overweight. Obese generally means that you weigh a lot more than your recommended weight and that is when problems can occur. There are also varying levels of obesity and those include being slightly obese to being morbidly obese.

Obviously the more obese you are, the higher your risk of developing serious health problems. So, when exactly do you know that there is a problem and what exactly are the problems which could occur?

Diabetes

It is a sad fact that many people who have become obese have developed Type 2 diabetes. Even if you are only 11 pounds overweight, you still have a higher risk of developing the condition but obviously the more obese you are, the higher the risk actually is. Type 2 diabetes is a serious condition and it is thought that around eighty percent of people who have diabetes are overweight

Heart Problems

One of the main risks with obesity includes heart problems such as heart disease. The risk of collapsing, dying suddenly and of having a heart attack are all increased once you are overweight and if you are morbidly obese, generally you are a walking time bomb. Heart problems are serious and often people who are obese also suffer form high blood pressure which can also be extremely serious.

Breathing Difficulties

Another common problem is breathing difficulties. Carrying around extra weight does take its toll on the body and all obese people suffer from breathing difficulties due to that extra weight. Climbing the stairs and even tying your own shoe laces will become a problem and it is when that happens that you know you have a problem!

Emotional Problems

As well as the many physical health problems, obesity often takes its toll on your emotions too. Depression, mood swings and feeling insecure are all common problems which many obese people develop. Often these emotional problems are usually a lot more painful for the sufferer than the physical problems actually are.

Overall obesity is a serious problem and whilst it is important to be happy with yourself, you also need to ensure that you are healthy too. If you are overweight and healthy you do not need to worry about losing weight, but when it is causing you problems that is when you need to start thinking about what is important to you. So, if you are obese why not make that change today? After all, the advantages of the change far outweigh the disadvantages!

Myths About Dieting

Are you tired of spending tremendous amounts of time and energy on something that doesn’t even work?

The truth is no miracle pill or gadget will suddenly cut your body fat by huge amounts. Instead, concentrate on adapting a healthy lifestyle and avoiding old wives’ tales when trying to stay lean.

1. Cutting fat from your diet will ensure weight-loss.

FALSE. It’s true that eating nutritious foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and skim milk may provide more fill with less calories, but low in fat does not necessarily mean low in calories.

Many desserts such as non-fat ice cream and other low in fat desserts contain great quantities of calories. Also, foods that are high in carbohydrates such as bread and pasta can also contribute to weight-gain when eaten in large amounts. It is important to consider portion size as well as calorie content when attempting to lose weight.

2. Extra protein will promote muscle growth.

FALSE. Although proteins are important in the building and maintaining of muscles, excess amounts of proteins are stored as fat, just as excess carbohydrates or fats are. Basically, any calorie-containing nutrient will be stored as fatty deposits if you eat too much. In order to build muscles, strength training and sufficient amounts of calories and proteins are the best method.

3. Walking is a great way to lose weight.

TRUE. Like any other physical activity, walking burns calories and can help weight loss. The best way is to take a brisk walk (rather than a stroll), and the longer the walk, the more calories you lose.

Every mile of walking burns approximately 100 calories. About 5 miles of walking every day will amount to the loss of one pound in a week.

4. Diet drugs are effective for weight-loss.

FALSE. Certain diet drugs that have been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for those who are medically significantly obese, which is defined as those who are over 30% over a healthy weight or those who have obesity-related diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetes.

These drugs often work by affecting the brain chemicals which control appetite, or block fat from being absorbed by the body. Diet drugs should only be used in conjunction with an attempt to change eating and lifestyle behaviors.

5. You can eat eggs without getting fat.

TRUE. Research proves that the major dietary culprit is high saturated-fat intake. Since eggs are low in saturated fat as well as in calories (approximately 75 calories if hard-boiled) they are not as unhealthy as some may think.

They also contain many various essential nutrients. The American Heart Association recommends one egg per day. However, the key to a good diet is to eat a variety of healthy foods and to use light oil rather than butter or margarine when cooking eggs.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle is an important first step in dieting. Keep in mind the following tips, and you’ll be on the right track to healthy and effective weight loss. Start first by getting rid of all the junk food in your place, and replace them with more nutritious snacks such as fruits, vegetables and nuts. Then make sure to increase your level of activity each day.

For example, you can park your car at the end of the lot and walk an extra hundred meters to the entrance of the mall. Or take the stairs instead of the escalator. Small steps such as these will add up to pounds shed.

Quit smoking, gambling, binge drinking and any other addictive behavior. Then start following a meal plan for the whole week and stick to it. Include some of your favorites in your meals such as pasta and steak, but keep a watchful eye on the portions.

And most importantly, drink plenty of water each day. This helps to regulate your metabolism and strengthens your immune system, in addition to satisfying your appetite. When you drink more water, you will feel less hungry.

These steps may seem tedious at first, but maintaining routines such as the ones above will be integrated into your daily life in no time.

Why is regular exercise and a healthy diet beneficial for optimum health. Swimming, running, sorts and horse riding are the most beneficial to keep fit and healthy.

Why You Should Exercise Regularly

Does Regular Exercise and Dieting Really Work?

Regular exercising and dieting are always talked about as being the best ways to possibly lose weight. However, do they really work or is it all just a lot of hype?

The Link between Regular Exercise and Dieting
The truth is that exercise and dieting does generally work, but only if they are done together. You read so many articles claiming that dieting alone shifts all that added weight, but you will not receive the best benefits if you do not also take part in regular exercise too.

Eating healthily will certainly help your skin and help you lose a few pounds, but combined with exercise it does give you the best possible results as the exercise keeps you fit and healthy. Exercise also speeds up the process of weight loss and combined together they are by far the most effective way of losing those few extra pounds!

The Amount of Exercise You Need and the Best Diet to Follow
The amount of exercise that you generally need is 30 minutes at least, a day. This could include anything from walking to running, swimming to horse riding – it is basically down to personal preference as to which activity you choose to partake in.

As long as you enjoy what you are doing, you should notice that you stick to it and you will notice results fairly quickly. If you do not enjoy what you are doing, you will notice that you get bored easily and you will without a doubt, give up.

As for the best diet, it all depends upon your own personal preference. Usually the best diets are the ones which do not cut out any foods at all as the body needs a wide variety of foods to function properly.

You will usually find that with diets which cut various foods out, you may lose quite a lot of weight in a small amount of time, but in the long run the weight will actually come back on. So, you need to find a diet which balances everything rather than cutting things out, that way it is more of a lifestyle choice than a diet.

Overall the best exercise and diet management plan is one which is easy to follow and which is easy to achieve. You should never set yourself impossible targets and you should always try to avoid cutting any foods out of your diet.

If you stick to doing 30 minutes exercise a day you should notice pretty fast results. Or you can even just 10 minutes exercise if you cannot manage 30 at the beginning, it is better than doing nothing!

The bad sides of meat

Eating too much meat isn’t good for us. We all know if we eat too much it will make us feel run down and tired. Not only that, but there are health risks involved, too. A diet rich in high fatty meats can lead to heart disease and cancer.

No one wants that. Some people choose not to eat meat for religious reasons if they believe that it is wrong to kill an animal. Others may simply want a healthier diet, which is popular with the young crowd. I have never understood it really. Though I suspect that as you get older and bust your ass off for a living, you want to reward yourself with some nice juicy meat.

It looks good and it smells good when prepared – But it’s not the healthiest food for your body!

The problem is, most people that I know who don’t eat meat load up on other things. They eat a lot of dairy or eggs. I think they do this because all humans crave animal products. We crave the fat and the flavor. Most of the vegetarians I have known have really done a number on themselves with the amount of fat they eat. They lie to themselves because they think since they eat no meat then their diet is healthier. They think they can eat what ever they want, as long as it isn’t meat.

While I don’t think that meat is the devil that some make it out to be, I’m certain too much isn’t good for you. Also, too much of the wrong kind of meat is definitely not good for you. What do you do? You love meat, but not sure what to eat? You should try leaving out a good percent of the red meat you usually eat. This will mean that you can’t eat burgers and fries every other day, but you shouldn’t be doing that anyway. There is nothing wrong with eating some red meat from time to time as long as you aren’t overdoing it.

White meat and fish

I tend to eat poultry every day. I love meat, I can’t do without it. So, I stick to chicken and turkey whenever I can. I love these two meats anyway, so it’s not that hard. You need to find ways that you can eat these and enjoy them. I know that some people cook poultry to the point that the meat is so dry you almost choke on it. There is no need to do that. I know it is important to eat them well done so you don’t get sick. There is a difference between well done and overdone.

You should invest in a meat thermometer. This way you can take the guess work out of knowing if your meat is done or not. Temperature is the important thing when cooking meat. You want an internal temp that is enough to cook it all the way through. If it comes up to temp, it means it is done. Cooking it more won’t make the meat any safer.

Roasting, grilling, baking is a great way to cook poultry. You don’t want to add fat to it because you don’t know how to cook it properly. You don’t want to deep-fry it to make it juicier. That makes the whole effort of eating the lean meat worthless.

Here are some ideas that you can use:

Bake the chicken with some spices and herbs on the outside. This is a great way to make sure it is juicy and has a lot of flavor. Grill chicken breasts. Throw them on the grill and let them cook away. Chicken breasts are great for grilling. I think that is the only thing they are good for, really. If you do much of anything else with them, they will become dry and rubbery.

Thighs are great when it comes to being juicy. These tend to have a little more fat on them, but they are great. I love chicken thighs. There is so much you can do with them. Chicken wings are great in stir-fries or when baked. Don’t make the mistake of deep-frying these great things. Bake them on a cookie sheet and load them up with hot sauce. You will have a great meal that will rival their deep-fried cousins.

Depending on what part of the world you live in, fish can be great too. If you live far inland, like I do, getting fresh fish can be a problem. Sometimes if you live in a major city they will fly fresh fish in for the supermarkets to sell. If you live in a small town, you will probably be forced to buy frozen or whatever they can catch locally. There is no reason why you can’t make it a weekend trip and go out fishing. Fishing is a great way to relieve stress as well. If you know of a few good spots, a few big fish is all that you need. You will have more fish than you know what to do with.

If you are lucky enough to live near the ocean, you have probably grown up eating all kinds of fish. My favorite way of eating fish is probably grilled. I like it to be grilled with a little seasoning and maybe a hint of lemon. The lemon I think keeps the fish tasting fresh and alive. When you are buying fish, it should never smell fishy. I know that sounds stupid, but that is the truth. If it smells fishy, then it is probably old. You don’t want to waste your money on bad fish.

Fish should smell like the sea. Always buy fish with the head attached. If cleaning a fish bothers you, have the vendor do it. The eyes should look clear, not foggy. It should look like it was just caught yesterday. With fish, freshness is the most important thing.

Like I said, I don’t believe that anyone should avoid eating meat. I think that it is good for you. The catch is, you need to be careful what you eat. If you can do that, you made it.
